Vontimitta Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama present in Vontimitta city of Rajampet taluk in YSR Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Vontimitta Temple is at a distance of around 25.1 km from YSR Kadapa district and it takes about 28 minutes to reach this ancient historic and cultural temple by road.
It was the official temple for conducting Sri Ramanavami celebrations declared by the Andhra Pradesh State as Sri Ramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam is now a part of newly formed Telangana State.
Though I am not a professional storyteller, I will do my best to describe this temple in my own words. So, let's start the divine journey.
The 450-year old Lord Sri Rama temple is located on Kadapa-Tirupati road. The temple has ample space for vehicle parking.
Ancient legends say that the famous Vontimitta temple is built in a single day by ardent devotes of Bhagawan Sri Rama, Vontudu and Mittudu.
After construction of this wonderful temple with 32 pillars, both devotees sacrificed their lives and transformed into statues. Even today you can find them at the entrance of the temple.
Another interesting fact about this temple is that it is the only place in India where Sri Seeta Rama Kalyanam is celebrated at night.
It is one of the most beautiful Lord Rama temple in India and is praised in the past by the famous French traveller, Tavernier in the year 1652.
It is believed that Lord Jambuvantha has placed the Lord Rama idol in this temple. Garbhagudi consists of Bhagawan Sri Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Laxmana idol engraved on a single rock.
Also, one can find Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple to the right and Lord Vinayaka Temple in a beautiful dancing posture in the main Mandapam of the temple.
Another surprising fact about Vontimitta Kodanda Rama Swamy temple is that it is one of the few temples in India, where the idol of Bhagavan Sri Rama is without Lord Anjaneya Swamy at his side.
The Vontimitta temple mandapam architecture was designed by the Vijayanagara rulers.
Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya, a great devotee of Lord Rama lived on Tallapaka village very close to Vontimitta and is said to have visited Vontimitta temple and praised Lord Sri Rama in his Keerthanas.
Also, Kishkindakanda is believed to have happened in this region.
TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) has recently taken over the Vontimitta Temple.
Mahakavi Bammera Pothana spent his whole life here praising Sri Rama and finally dedicated his Mahabhagavatham to God in Vontimitta.
Languages spoken by the local people at Vontimitta are Telugu and Urdu.
Pilgrims across the country can reach this amazing temple by buses, vehicles or trains.

Kadapa-Tirupati bus route pass through Vontimitta. APSRTC ply frequent buses from Cuddapah [Kadapa] to Vontimitta.
By Train:
Chennai to Mumbai railway line pass through Vontimitta town.
Kadapa Airport (CDP) is a domestic airport present in Kadapa. The nearby international airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) at Hyderabad.
Important festivals celebrated at Vontimitta are Rama Navami (Birth day of Rama).
Sri Rama Jayanthi, Sri Sita Rama Kalyanotsavam and annual Navahnika Brahmotsavams are celebrated in grand scale at this temple.
Also, APSRTC will be operating special buses from nearby places like Kadapa and Nandaluru to Vontimitta temple during Sita Rama Brahmotsavam celebrations period.
