Keesaragutta Temple History:

Lord Rama thought about installing a Shiva Lingam and peform pooja to get rid of the "Brahma Hatya" sin caused after defeating and killing Ravana during the war.

So, Lord Rama asked Lord Hanuman to get a Shiva Lingam from Kashi (Varanasi).

Legend has it that Lord Hanuman took a little longer than expected to gather all the Shiva Lingams and didn’t return on time. Since he was delayed, Sri Rama stepped in, installed the Atma-Linga given by Lord Shiva, and completed the task right on schedule.

When Hanuman returned with 101 Shivalingas, he was frustrated to find that Sri Rama had already completed the worship. In his anger, he threw all the Lingas, and by sheer luck, all of them fell on Keesara Gutta.

Lord Rama, in his blessings, told Hanuman that devotees would first visit and worship all of his Shiva Lingas before heading to the darshan of Sri Rama Lingeswara Swamy. He also blessed Hanuman, declaring that this hill would be known as Kesari Giri.

Over time, the name evolved from 'Kesari Giri' to 'Keesara Giri,' and eventually became 'Keesaragutta' as we know it today.

There are other temples constructed separately for Lord Rama with Mother Sita and for Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.
