The main deity present at the sanctum sanctorum is a self-manifested (Swayambhu) Vayu Lingam and according to an ancient story (sthala purana), the great Parashurama Rishi consecrated the Shivalinga here at this place.

In the past, more than 1000 sages / saints performed penance (Thapa's) on this hill for many years. Hence the village got its name "Veyi Munula Kuduru", which later became "Yanamalakuduru". This place is also known as "Munigiri Kshetram".

It is a well-maintained temple with a peaceful and serene atmosphere. This beautiful temple at the top of the hill is covered with bright lights at night and one can see many parts of Vijayawada city and the calm Krishna River passing nearby.
